Betty Jo Bowen

Betty Jo Bowen, a longtime resident of Chandler, Okla., died May 3, 2022, in Chandler, at the age of 83.

Betty Jo was born in Davenport, Okla., Nov. 4, 1938, to Carl Jerome and Lois Opal (Tunnell) Anderson. She attended schools in Davenport, attending Davenport High School where she played basketball. Betty Jo Graduated from Davenport High School in 1957. While still attending high school, Betty Jo married Harvey Bowen, Sept. 20, 1957, in Davenport. Together they had one daughter, Rhonda.

In 1957, Betty Jo also started as a bookkeeper at Union National Bank in Chandler, Okla. She and Harvey moved to Chandler in 1958. Throughout her years working at Union National, Betty Jo rose through the ranks, eventually becoming a teller, and finally an assistant cashier. In 1985, Betty Jo retired from the bank to spend more time with her grandsons, Brandon and Lukas.

Betty Jo lived life to the fullest. She loved children and loved spending time with her family. A devoted grandmother, she never missed any of her grandson’s soccer games.

Betty Jo and Harvey attended Chandler Friends Church for close to 20 years, where she served in the nursery.

Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Lois Anderson; a sister, Carlene Northcutt; and a brother, Darrell Wayne Anderson.

Those left to cherish Betty Jo’s memory are her husband of almost 65 years, Harvey Bowen; her daughter, Rhonda McCloskey and her husband, Bob of Broken Arrow, Okla.; grandsons, Brandon Carrington and his wife, Nicole, of Pottsboro, Texas, and Lukas Carrington and his wife, Stephanie, of Prosper, Texas; great-grandchildren, Penelope Carrington, Pierce Carrington, and Blakely Carrington; and her brother, Jim Anderson and his wife, Mary Ann, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Graveside services for Betty Jo were held at 2 pm, Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Oak Park Cemetery, Chandler. Condolences can be expressed at www.parksbrothers.net. Services are in the care of Parks Brothers Funeral Service, Chandler, Oklahoma.
