Softball champions

The 13U Slam, which has players from Wellston, Chandler, Stroud and Meeker, won the Del City Softball Championship this weekend by sweeping five opponents.

The Slam beat Norman IntenCity 08 3-0 with Ruthie Capps, Rylee Capps, Elli Hilgenfeld, Alexis Fowble Brodie Chance, Blaklei Smith and Gabriella Murfin combining for nine hits. In the second pool game, the Slam beat Oklahoma Stingers Mayhem, 18-2. Ruthie Capps, Peyton Davis, Smith, Rylee Capps, Miyah Collier, Hilgenfeld, Fowble, Chance, Murfin and Sally Campbell adding to the throttling. In the third pool game, the Slam defeated the Next Level 2K8 7-2 with Davis, Smith, Ruthie Capps, Rylee Capps and Hilgenfeld leading the hitting.

In the first bracket game, the Slam came from behind to again beat the Next Level 2K8 9-8 in the last inning. Leading the hitting pack was Chance, hitting her first over the fence home run. Davis, Smith, Ruthie Capps, Rylee Capps, Hilgenfeld, Gaylord, Fowble, Collier, Campbell With Murfin giving a stellar pitching performance.

In the Championship, with 100 degree temperatures, Murfin threw a no-hitter to defeat the Evolution Team, 10-0. It was a team effort with 15 team hits, six singles, seven doubles, and a triple. Davis took one deep over the left field fence for her first homerun! .

The team next tournament will be playing in the USSSA 14U National Tournament in Branson, Missouri in July.
