Dale sets school board election vote

The Dale Board of Education this week adopted a resolution calling for the annual school election for Board of Education Office No. 3.

That position is currently held by Board President Ronnie Newton. He said prior to Monday night’s board meeting he will seek another term.

Filing period is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 5 though Wednesday, Dec. 7.

The board also approved paying stipends for employees with over 25 years.

Board members agreed to purchase a 2009 Thomas School Bus for $4,600 using County Education Sales Tax money.

They also voted approval of a parking lot maintenance proposal recommended by School Supt. Will Jones.

He advised the board members he plans to pay for that with money from the Building Fund.

Jones also reviewed with the board revenue comparisons of October 2021 and October 2022.

In October of 2021, warrants totaled $1,533,291 and in October this year the figure is $1,654,805.85 which is $121,514.85 more.

The building fund cash balance in October of a year ago stood at $21,531. Last month it totaled $108,275.46 which is up $86,744.46.

The district’s General Fund cash balance in October of 2021 was $123,771 and in October of 2022 it totaled $235,324.80. That is an increase of $111,553.80 over a year ago.

State aid received in October of 2021 was $817,512. That is $5,340.03 above the $812.171.97 received in October of 2022.

The County Education sales tax balance was $267,519 in October of a year ago and in October of this year it is $411,182.85 an increase of $143,663.85. Jones pointed out October’s county sales tax check was $26,505.01.

He advised the board 2022-2023 Esser III funds are $452,834.

In other business, board members approved 2023 meeting dates. They also voted approval of moving grant money and Middle School funds from Secondary to the newly created Activity Accounts.

They approved a fundraiser for the mini-cheer program.

In their reports, Elementary Principal Tamee Daniel advised the board that 15 elementary teachers had applied for and received $800 Donor Choose grants.

Middle School Principal Kim Powell reported that four of her teachers are receiving $800 Donor Choose grants and the Middle School is hosting the Veteran’s Day Program Friday around 8:25 a.m.

Secondary Principal JD Widner told board members that 28 High School and Middle School students have been selected for this year’s All District Honor

Band. During his superintendent’s report, Jones advised Girl’s Basketball Coach Eric Smith wants to sell some old surplus uniform shirts. The board agreed to allow that and have Jones come up with a surplus policy.

Jones also informed the board, “We are growing and trying to keep all kids active,” as he suggested some other sports activities the school could look at implementing.

Among those, he said, are track, archery, E-Sports and golf.

He advised board members, “We didn’t get our electric bus we applied for, but there will be a second round.”

Jones addressed some of the transportation issues of the school. “There are no Suburbans available right now, but we can order one in the spring,” he advised the board.

Board members also heard an audit presentation from Shane Murphy with Bledsoe, Hewett and Gullekson CPA’s.
