Lions of the Month announced

Chandler High School announced that the January Lions of the Month are Emma Cummings, Brayden Hilgenfeld and Sadie Sherman.

Emma Cummings is the daughter of Rafe and Christon Cummings. At Chandler High School she maintains a 4.0 GPA while taking advanced English classes and concurrent classes. She has been named to the Superintendent’s Honor Roll for four years and the National Honor Society for three years. She has also been honored at the academic banquet for four years.

Cummings is a member of FFA, National Honor Society, Gifted and Talented. Her school involvement includes varsity pom, academic team, student council and junior high student council. She has served as class secretary and FFA secretary for three years. She has also served as National Honor Society Secretary for one year. Her leadership activities include Postponing Sexual Involvement, Positive Peers, Made For Excellence Leadership Conference, Advanced Leadership Development Conference and BancFirst Student Board of Directors.

Cummings has also been very active in the community by volunteering at Chandler Recycles, the Museum of Pioneer History, the Chandler Food Pantry and Stand Down for Veterans.

After graduating from high school Cummings plans to attend the University of Tulsa to obtain a bachelor’s degree in English.

Brayden Hilgenfeld is the son of Drew and Holly Hilgenfeld. He maintains a 3.54 GPA at Chandler High School.

He has been a varsity starter in baseball for four years. He is also a member of Gifted and Talented and the BancFirst Student Board of Directors. Brayden is involved in cross country, football, basketball and baseball. He is a member of the First Baptist Church and youth group. He has also volunteered at the food pantry.

After high school Hilgenfeld plans to go to college and play baseball.

Sadie Sherman maintains a 4.0 GPA while taking advanced classes in English and concurrent classes. She has been named to the Superintendent’s Honor Roll and has been honored at the Academic Banquet for four years. She is also a member of the Oklahoma Honor Society and the BancFirst Student Board of Directors. Sadie is a State STEM Standout, a State FFA Veterinary Science winner, a National Silver Team/Individual in Veterinary Science, and State Pom Hip Hop and Jazz winner. She has also received the State Pom Be Bold Award and State Pom Academic Achievement.

Sherman is involved in FFA, National Honor Society, Student Council, Gifted and Talented, Postponing Sexual Involvement, Positive Peers, Pom, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, YAHL and Yearbook.

She has served as Senior Class President, National Honor Society President, FFA President, FFA Vice President and FFA Treasurer. She has also served as a peer mentor leader, a Bible Quiz Assistant Coach, a church camp counselor, and a Junior High Student Councilor Mentor. Sadie is also on the Chandler Friends Church Outreach Board. Her leadership activities include FFA C.O.L.T. Conference, Kaleo Leadership/ Theology Academy, Alumni Leadership Camp, Made For Excellence, Gifted and Talented for Leadership, Advanced Leadership Development, FFA Leadership workshops at State FFA Convention, Greenhand Leadership Development event, National FFA leadership workshops, the Counselor in Training program, Postponing Sexual Involvement training, leadership/ discipleship training, FFA Day at the Capitol, YAHL Leadership Training and Goodwill Tour.

Sadie is involved in her community through Coffee with Heroes, placing flags at cemeteries, Community Thanksgiving Dinner, Veterans Day programs, Meals on Wheels, Stand Down for Veterans Lincoln County Museum cleanup and garden work, Chandler Area Chamber of commerce meal, Relay For Life, food pantry, Walk For Warriors, Angel Tree, Legion Hut painting, Operation Christmas Child, Chandler Friends Church VBS, Chandler Recycling, county fairgrounds cleanup, gifts for needy families, singing for Veteran hospital patients, working the concession for Cattlemens at the county fair, the watermelon giveaway at the food pantry and reindeer food for Pre K.

After graduation Sherman plans to attend Oklahoma Christian College to get her Bachelor of Science in Nursing to become an RN. After that she plans to work with Pediatric Oncology patients. She also wants to minor in youth ministry and missions and possibly come back to her home church or go across the world.
