As a wintry blast was approaching Lincoln and Pottawatomie counties about mid-day Tuesday, only one area school had closed and one had decided to go virtual.
The Dale School District announced Monday night that school would br closed on Tuesday. Stroud School Supt. Joe Van Tuyl confirmed Tuesday morning his district was holding classes virtually.
He said late Tuesday morning a decision would be made later about Wednesday. Chandler School Supt. Scott Baade, whose school district was holding classes and had Homecoming scheduled Tuesday evening, said a decision would be made by around 2 p.m. as to whether to hold Homecoming.
Schools at White Rock, Wellston, Prague, Davenport, Agra, Carney, Meeker, North Rock Creek and McLoud were all in session. Officials with those schools said a decision on Wednesday would be made later Tuesday.
Cody McDonell, Deputy Director of Lincoln County Emergency Management, said that by late morning Tuesday it was still not snowing in Chandler but that the western portion of the county was seeing some snow, he understood.
There was heavy snow falling in the northern portion of Pottawatomie County shortly before noon on Tuesday, and it was beginning to stick on grassy surfaces.
It still wasn’t sticking to the roadways, however.
