McLoud approves ARPA spending

McLoud City Council members during their most recent meeting approved spending ARPA funds on several items, especially for the city’s police and fire departments.

They adopted an ordinance and the emergency clause on a comprehensive Campaign, Finance and Ethics Code.

City Manager Cody Roe explained, “We spent the ARPA funds on purchases of much needed and vital equipment for our police and firefighters.

He said Council members voted to spend $54,969.10 on body cams for police officers. They also approved spending $14,096.25 for bullet proof vests for officers.

They voted to spend $16,500 in ARPA money on the purchase of a drug dog.

Council members voted approval of $131,692 in ARPA money for self-contained breathing apparatus for firefighters, Roe reported.

They tabled an item on discussingARPA funding appropriations until the February meeting, he said.

RoenotedtheCouncilapprovedabudget amendment of $87,615.91 for the police department and $131,692 for the fire department for those expenditures.

He said the Council approved the sale of Lot 27, block 14 of McLoud Original to Kirk Petty and authorized Roe and Attorney MikeWarwick to complete the sale.

Roe pointed out the Council members asked Councilman Daniel McClure, Jr., even though he wasn’t present at the meeting, to draft a potential Ethics policy.

They also authorized McClure and/or a committee to hold public input sessions concerning ARPA funding and service on McLoud committees.

Among the Consent Agenda items approve were appointments of Richard Seaborn to the Planning Commission and Glenda Kuhn to the Cemetery Board.
