Hearing continued for Carney suspect

A pre-preliminary hearing has been continued again for a Carney man who was arrested following a pursuit and charged with two felonies.

Formal charges of endangering others while eluding/ attempting to elude a police officer and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol were filed in Lincoln County District Court on Jan. 9 against Campbell McKenna Miller, 19.

He appeared before Associate District Judge Sheila Kirk earlier this month and she set his bond at $6,000. He made his initial appearance on Jan. 19 before Special Judge Emily Mueller.

She scheduled his pre-preliminary hearing for April 20.

Special Judge Emily Mueller continued that hearing until Sep. 21 and now has moved it to Oct. 12.

In Count 1, Miller is accused on Jan. 1 of this year of attempting to elude Deputy Sheriff Kevin Roe with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office by increasing the speed of the vehicle he was driving in disregard of emergency lights and siren which endangered some person beside himself.

Count 2 charges him with driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Supplemental information filed by the district attorney shows Miller was convicted on Sep. 2, 2022 in Lincoln County District Court of Aggravated DUI.

In a probable cause affidavit, Deputy Roe states he responded to the area of 870 Road and 3470 Road in an attempt to locate a suspect pursuit vehicle that had been pursued by Cushing Police who had lost sight of the vehicle around 800 Road and 3500 Roard.

Sac and Fox Officer Darren Harris located the truck and began pursuing but lost sight of it. As Roe approached the intersection of 870 and 3470 Road, he observed the truck driving southbound. He advised he would be the lead in the pursuit.

Roe said he continued the pursuit at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Stroud Police Officers Levi Bruder and Rickashee Gilley set up spike strips near Highway 66 and Santa Fe, the deputy stated and the Stroud officers advised it was a successful spike.

Roe said the pursuit continued and the driver of the truck stopped about one half mile south of 910 Road on SH 99, and reportedly exited the truck into the woods.

A short time later, Miller was arrested as were two others who had been in the truck. Miller was arrested and taken to Stroud Police Department by Sheriff’s Lt. Tony Long for an intoxilyzer test that Miller refused to agree or disagree with state test.

Miller was transported to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office for booking and the other two subjects were taken by other officers to the Sheriff’s Office for booking.
