I am almost finished with my Christmas shopping.
Most of the presents are for my kids, grandkids and step-kids and involve pictures of dead presidents, so it’s not quite the accomplishment it seems, but hey. Celebrate life’s accomplishments when you can, right?
For the record, Kindra gets a new Jaguar, if I can find one in exactly the right color. It’s been a tough search, so far, but we still have a couple of weeks to go.
There are a few gifts for other people that I’d like to add to a wish list. They would include: For Lincoln Riley... Actually, another football season just like this one.
Most OU football fans were like me when the Man from Muleshoe ditched us for Southern Cal. Lots of feelings of betrayal.
Two years in, though, we’re all happy that we have Brent Venables as our guy and that Riley has gotten what can only be described as his just desserts.
For Taylor Swift... A hearty “You Go, Girl!” Because what else can you give someone with the annual income of Central America?
I don’t think I can name a single one of the songs that made her famous, but boy, it’s hard not to recognize the influence she’s had. And almost all of it for the good.
She encouraged people to sign up to vote and, as Time magazine wrote, she has been “standing up and speaking out against discrimination, harassment, and assault faced by too many women for far too long.”
She’s a generous billionaire who donates to cancer patients, sexual assault survivors, disaster relief organizations and food banks. The world needs more people like her.
For The House of Representatives... A 435-person-sized lump of coal. We the people deserve better government than you’ve been giving us. Get your act together. Please.
For the good folks at Kodak and Harman Industries... Hearty thanks for introducing new kinds of film for old cameras. I and my fellow old-schoolers appreciate it immensely.
For Kindra... All joking aside, I’d like to give you the world wrapped in a soft, beautiful package with a turquoise bow. You make every day a dream come true.
For the readers of the Lincoln County News... A wonderful holiday season and the very happiest of new years.
