Letters to veterans

We asked high school seniors from several organizations to write letters to veterans, exxpressing their thoughts and gratitude for their service.

Stroud Pom Erin Sellers

As I sit down to write this letter, my heart and mind is filled by many stories I’ve heard about my great grandfathers and uncles. How they left all that they knew behind them to go fight across the globe in an unfamiliar land. Some in WWI and WWII, others in the Korean and Vietnam War, but all were ready to make the ultimate sacrifice. These sacrifices have shaped not only mine but my entire family’s view of what it means to be a hero. Though many veterans will tell you that they are no hero, the rest of the nation will always remember and honor them as one. I want to personally say thank you to all of the brave souls who have served and those who never made it home. Your sacrifice and dedication to this country will never be forgotten.

Thank You, Erin Sellers

What does the word “courage” mean? The online definition states “the ability to do something that frightens someone”. When I think of a veteran, that is what iIsee. Someone who puts all of their fears aside in order to make those fears disappear for us. It is hard to imagine the sacrifices veterans go through for us.

Thank you, all veterans, for what you have given up in order to protect us who get to live normal lives. Thank you for risking your life in order to allow us to feel safe. Thank you above all for being a hero who’s courage outweighs all of ours. You do all of this despite not even knowing our names, that does not go unseen. We see you and you are greatly appreciated by us all. Thank you veterans for changing our country for the better. Your country loves you.
