Two juveniles have been arrested in connection with a rash of car burglaries that occurred overnight last week and a number of the items stolen have been recovered, Stroud Police Chief Clint Gay- lord has confirmed.
Gaylord reported, "The stolen rifle, a .22 caliber Savage, a crossbow, and a number of other items stolen have been recovered. We are in the process of contacting victims whose property has been recovered.”
Gaylord stated last week, “We had multiple vehicles that reportedly were left unlocked. Some items were stolen, and some vehicles were just rummaged through.
Gaylord had reported the majority of the vehicles involved were on the south side of town from about the 100 blocked S. Second to south of the 600 block.
He noted that overnight on Sunday, Dec. 8, a total of 10 vehicles were involved. “There were mainly nick knacks taken, some slides, sunglasses, what they could get away with in a hurry,” he said.
Gaylord pointed out at that time, “We do have surveillance video that we are viewing and looking at to try and identify suspects. At least two diuerent suspects appear to be involved, possibly more,” Gaylord stated.
He said the cameras police had viewed so far “we’re just getting a quick video of.”
The chief continued, “We’ve had some sporadic, hit and miss break-ins over the last two or three weeks. In the last three weeks we’ve had another six or eight vehicle break-ins.
“It looks like they are crimes of opportunities where they are not breaking anything to get into the vehicles. It appears they are the same suspects from what I’ve seen so far,” the chief thinks.
Gaylord urges people to keep their vehicles locked up and if they see anything suspicious or someone who is in their yard late at night that shouldn’t be to contact Stroud Police Department at 918-968-2733.
The chief mentioned Stroud police have investigated one burglary a couple of weeks ago at Peggy’s Salon Nov. 24, at 116 N. Allied Road where Christmas presents were taken. “We have recovered part of that property,” he said.
Another break-in occurred a couple of weeks ago, he stated, at a Stroud laundromat. “One suspect stole all of that change and destroyed the change machine. He destroyed a door and got away with $400 worth of change,” Gaylord added.
