Strangulation case continued

The case of a Prague man who waived his preliminary hearing on a charge of felony assault and battery charge following a reported altercation with his girl friend has been continued until late January.

Trevor Wade Mills, 23, was formally charged in Lincoln County District July 10, 2024 with domestic assault and battery by strangulation.

Appearing recently for his arraignment before District Judge Sarah Bridge, Mills pleaded not guilty. The judge received the plea and set the cause for the felony disposition docket on Dec. 17.

He made his initial appearance on July 18. His bond has been set at $3,000.

On Oct. 17, he waived his preliminary hearing. His arraignment was held on Nov. 19, 2024.

Appearing in December before Judge Bridge for a felony disposition docket, the judge continued Mills’ case until 9 a.m. Jan. 28, 2025 for a plea.

Mills is accused on May 10, 2024 in Lincoln County of committing an assault and battery by strangulation or attempted strangulation against Brooke Stanley, his girl friend, by choking her.

Lincoln County Sheriff Detective George Kelly Coleman, in a probable cause affidavit, states he reviewed a report that Stanley had called 911 stating that she had been on the phone with her boy friend Mills when he reportedly shot himself. She said she had heard what sounded like a gunshot then what sounded like the phone falling to the floor.

Stanley gave a Meeker address in Lincoln County.

According to the affidavit, when deputies arrived they talked with Trevor’s uncle Shane and Mills who were standing outside.

Mills said a domestic situation had occurred but denied a physical altercation with his girl friend and noted she had left.

Deputies noticed blood on Mills’ shirt near the inner side of his elbow and he told them he had cut himself on glass and didn’t need medical attention. He refused treatment even though an ambulance had responded.

Deputies contacted Stanley at the Stroud Police Department and she told them Mills had shoved her shoulder with his hands and was being aggressive with her.
