MeekerTownBoardof Trustees this week voted to authorize the Town’s attorney to look into a couple of properties that could be targets for condemnation.
The Trustees also voted to repeal an ordinance where each board member was responsible for oneormoredepartments.
Town Administrator JeffWilbournannounced the annual citywide cleanup is March 27-29.
The Trustees’ action authorizing its legal counsel James Hodgens to look into a couple of properties came toward the conclusion of a discussion with Jeff Eulberg, local citizen who addressed them about dilapidated properties in Meeker.
Eulberg, who formerly served on the Trustees several years ago, advised he started talking about the problem with dilapidated structures back in 2019, six years ago. He brought to Monday night’s meeting copies of emails he had sent Trustees through the years.
He noted, “I just wanted to make sure things keep rolling. Nobody is going to do anything with their properties until they are shamed into it.”
Trustees also repealed an ordinance where Trustees were responsible for one or more departments. It pointed out that is not needed when they have a Town Administrator capable of overseeing those departments.
They also agreed to amend an ordinance that currently says Trustees may be designated to perform duties and designate various or one of its memberstomediateover an assigned department. Wilbourn explained the citywide cleanup is early this year, coming Thursday March 27 through Saturday March 29 from 8 a.m.to 4 p.m. at the old water treatment plant behind Homestead Park. District 3 Commissioner Lee Doolen is providing two county dumpsters, Wilbourn told Trustees.
In other business, Trustees voted to table any action regarding evidence storage for the Meeker Police Department.
They approved the renewal of the Meeker Little League Baseball and Softball Associate lease agreement at Meeker Lake.
They also voted to take no action for the Meeker Industrial Authority to research, apply and accept program requirements if selected for the Oklahoma Housing Stability Program.
