The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma is launching its annual summer feeding program in June, providing free meals and snacks to children, according to a press release from the food bank.
The program will have six locations in Lincoln County this summer -- Carney Farmers Market, Chandler Public Library, City of Meeker Public Library, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma Mobile Distribution in Stroud,Tryon Library andWellston Farmers Market. All of them are Grab and Go locations.
The Summer Feeding Program kicked off on June 1. It will continue throughAug. 7, with nearly 120 sites all over the state. The program offers free food and snacks to children aged 18 and under. At Grab and Go sites, participants can take the food home, the release said.
“Summer should be a time of growth and opportunity for Oklahoma children, not a time of hunger,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer at the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma. “Our Summer Feeding Program helps provide consistent access to nutritious meals, ensuring every child stays healthy and ready to thrive in the school year ahead.”
It’s a federal nutrition program managed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and distributed through the Oklahoma Department of Education. The meals were sponsored by Love’s Travel Stops and provided with support from the USDA, the release said.
