Prague high school ahead of schedule

Construction on the new Prague High School is ahead of schedule, according to outgoing Superintendent Kimberly Fleak.

At a regular school board meeting on June 8, Fleak said that Phase II is projected to be finished by January 2028, which is two months earlier than originally planned. Currently, Phase I is in progress, with maintenance to block the teacher parking lot and turn off electricity soon. The high school principal and secretary will work out of the middle school library for July. High school teachers and staff should be able to move into Phase I by Aug. 3.

The School Board also approved the employment ofStephenL.SmithCorpas financial consultants for the fiscal year 2026-27 and a resolution to determine the maturities of the $840,000 building bond, set the date and time for July 10, 2026, at 12 p.m., and designate bond counsel with this issuance of bonds.

The Board approved removing Fleak as the authorized signer on the High School Bond Account and addingnewSuperintendent James Payne, as well as $3,000 in stipends each for Payne (superintendent professional training and duties) and Jerelyn Atchison (high school principal training and duties).

The School Board approved the resignations of Casey LaValley (high school teacher), Leslie Kroutil (early childhood center teacher) and Keven Worley (high school teacher). It also surplused several items, including four vehicles and four textbooks.
