The Lady Lions of Chandler (10-10, 1-1) competed at the McLoud/Dale Tournament this past weekend, playing in five games and finishing the tournament winning three of their five games.
Chandler’s two losses in the tournament came at the hands of two Class 4A opponents, McLoud and Tecumseh. The Lady Lions close out their final 10 games of the season with six being against district opponents.
Chandler vs. Konawa (2A) on Thursday, September 5 In the first round of the tournament, the Lady Lions faced the Lady Tigers of Konawa (9-11, 3-2).
Both teams would go scoreless in the first two innings until the Lady Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third thanks to a single from Bailey Bigbey who brought in two runners after a hard single to right field. With two outs in the same inning, Grace Hulsey singled to left field to bring in the third Lady Lion’s base runner.
The Lady Tigers responded in their next plate appearance with two runs of their own after a single brought in two Konawa runners. Chandler would extend its lead to five in the top of the fourth after a pair of errors and three singles. Hulsey would retire the side with a pair of flyouts and a strikeout to seal the 7-2 victory. Hulsey earned the win, surrendering four hits, striking out four and walking zero batters in four innings.
The Lady Lions racked up nine hits on the day led by Jaelyn Robertson and Hulsey, who had multiple hits for Chandler. Robertson went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Lions in hits.
Chandler vs. McLoud (4A) on Thursday, September 5 The Lady Lions had trouble generating run against one of the host teams, McLoud, in the second round of the tournament.
Chandler surrendered runs in all but one inning as the Lady Redskins finished with 11 hits and 13 runs compared to the Lady Lion’s two hits. Chandler’s lone run came in the bottom of the third on a passed ball, which brought Kelsey Williams across the plate. Up 6-1, McLoud put the game away in the top of the fourth inning after scoring seven runs with six different Lady Redskins contributing RBIs in the inning.
Grace Hulsey toed the rubber again for the Lady Lions with one strikeout on the afternoon. Hulsey and Julian Fowler each collected a hit to lead Chandler.
Chandler vs. Glencoe (A) on Friday, September 6 In the losers’ bracket the following day, Grace Hulsey bounced back and pitched a shutout against Glencoe (6-8). Hulsey pitched a complete game, surrendering zero runs, two hits and striking out three in the Lady Lions 10-0 victory.
In the first inning, Chandler got their offense started when Hannah Edmonds singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run. Chandler tallied four more runs in the second inning with Bailey Bigbey, Jaelyn Robertson, and Malory Lowery each driving in runs during the inning.
Chandler finished with 11 hits in the game led by Edmonds, Robertson, Bigbey, and Kodi Vega, who each racked up multiple hits for Chandler. Robertson and Edmonds led Chandler with three hits apiece.
The Lady Lions scored in each inning with four runs in the first and second innings and two runs in the bottom of the third.

Chandler vs. Tecumseh (4A) on Friday, September 6 Chandler’s final loss of the tournament came against Tecumseh (16-5, 3-1), who shutout the Lady Lions in six innings, 5-0.
Both teams held firm defensively, as both sides were scoreless through the first three innings. The Lady Savages would break the scoreless streak in the top of the fourth after scoring three runs on a walk that brought in one runner and a two-run single with two outs. The final runs of the game would come from Tecumseh in the top of the sixth with the Lady Savages extending their lead to five after scoring two more runs.
Chandler left six runners on base throughout the game, coming close to scoring in four of the six innings. The Lady Lions finished with three hits compared to Tecumseh’s five. Jaelyn Robertson led Chandler with two of the team’s three hits. Grace Hulsey started the game for Chandler, pitching another complete game and finishing with three strikeouts.
Chandler vs. Jones (3A) on Saturday, September 7 The Lady Lions capped off the three-day tournament with a high-scoring affair against Jones (4-8, 1-3). Chandler clinched the win in the final inning thanks to an 8-run inning in the bottom of the fourth.
Chandler’s 14-7 victory over the Lady Longhorns was in large part to the Lady Lions finishing with double-digit (10) hits on the final day of the tournament. After each team scored six runs in the third inning, the Lady Lions were down one run with one inning remaining. Chandler capped off their final inning on the field with a strikeout followed by the Lady Lion’s catcher throwing out a base runner attempting to steal second. The following inning, Chandler came away with eight of their 10 hits to seal the win.
Grace Hulsey was credited with her third victory of the tournament for the Lady Lions, striking out her tournament-high four Lady Longhorns batters. Malory Lowery and Cashia Herber managed multiple hits for Chandler with two hits apiece to lead the Lady Lions.
Robertson led the Lady Lions at the plate throughout the tournament, finishing with a team-high nine hits and five RBIs in five games.
