The travel plaza on the Turner Turnpike just east of Chandler will be opening up Friday, June 5 at 6:00 a.m.
According to Jack Damrill, Director of Communications for the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, all services, including gas, food and restaurants, will be open and available.
The old EZ-Go, just east of the Chandler exit will close their doors at 11:00 p.m. Thursday, but the pumps and restrooms will still be available for use.
At 6:00 a.m. Friday, the EZ-Go will close. Any needed services will be filled at the new plaza.
Damrill said an important factor of the project was the cooperation between the OTA, EZ GO/ Carey Johnson Oil Company, McDonald’s Corporation and the City of Chandler.
“The city was vital in helping get this project off the ground and to completion,” he said.
Construction on the new plaza started in late October of 2019.
Throughout the construction process there were a few weather delays.
This project was broken into two bids, one for the parking lot and one for the building.
Construction of the parking lot is being done by Becco Construction and cost $11.8 million, paid for by the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority.
Construction of the building is being done by Morrison Construction, and is being paid for by McDonalds.
This new travel plaza at mile marker 173 has a new building for vendors McDonalds and EzGo, state of the art equipment, cell phone charging stations and charging stations for electric cars.
There are 125 parking spots for semi trucks.
