Dale Board of Education members were advised this week that enrollment numbers are about the same reported to them in early September by staff.
Acting School Supt. Ky Wilkins and Assistant Secondary School Principal J.D. Widner said, “We’re basically about the same as we were last month.”
Widner added, “It’s the same with the number of virtual students as well.”
Last month Wilkins told the board that enrollment totaled 748. That included 379 elementary, 178 in the Middle School and 191 in high school.
Widner said in September the 178 is up by a couple and the 191 is down from 198 last year at this time.
But Wilkins pointed out the fact on total numbers that, “We have only two Pre-K classes this year, not three like a year ago.”
Wilkins said 46 are attending virtually and “We lost nine to EPIC. No one has tested positive for COVID and parents have done a great job of communicating with us,” he said last month.
Widner said during Monday night’s meeting this week, “The mask thing is working.”
The board approved Indian policies and procedures. Wilkins advised the board the policies and procedures “are essentially the same thing. There is some more paperwork we have to do,” he added.
Looking at local revenue comparison in September of this year, Wilkins pointed to the $142,438 of last month which is up from the $125,937 at this time a year ago.
“We’re ahead of where we were last year,” he noted.
He reported there is currently $123,000 in the district’s educational sales tax fund and pointed out, “My plan is not to spend any of it,” adding, “I think we should let it build up.”
In other action, the board approved hiring Tammy Dandy as a janitorial employee who will work in the elementary building.
