McLoud cruises past BC

Daylight football seems to agree with Clint Campbell.

The sophomore running back from McLoud bulldozed for a touchdown in the first quarter and ran for two long ones later in the game to lead the Redskins to a 42- 28 thumping of Bridge Creek.

The game was played under bright skies in the afternoon instead of the usual Friday night lights, and Campbell made the most of it.

“He’s been a beast all year,” coach Rusty Hall said. “He’s averaging a little over 100 yards a game. Today, we knew we had a chance to run on them, even with linemen down.

“He’s 6-1, 201 and just a sophomore. He plays like he’s a senior already. Anytime we can get the ball in his hands and have him to do well and be successful, we know we’re going to be successful.”

Campbell got his first touchdown with 5:28 left in the first quarter when he carried over the left side, took on a tackler at the two, shifted into low gear and forced his way into the end one.

He ran 69 yards for a score in the second quarter to put the Redskins up 21-14 with 3:02 left before half.

In the third quarter he went 70 yards to make the score 42-21 and take whatever suspense remained out of the game.

Now, the Redskins close out their regular season against Douglass, which is 0-4 on the season.

Then it’s on the top the playoffs, where they will probably face either Plainview or Pauls Valley.

“For us, being off last week, this is a perfect opportunity for us to practice and get better and build on what we started with this game,” Hall said. “It’s a good chance to get momentum going into the playoffs and then to keep the momentum going.”

COVID-19 has been a factor in the Redskins’ season, forcing cancellations of scrimmages, last-minute game changes and limited practices due to quarantines.

“Going into the year, we expected crazy things so you have to roll with the punches,” Hall said. “That’s about all you can do.
