A Luther man who has several previous felony convictions has been arrested and faces three new charges after his arrest by Lincoln County deputies.
Willie Lyle Cowan, 34, was formally charged in Lincoln County District Court with possession of firearm after former felony conviction and second degree burglary, both felonies. He also faces a misdemeanor count of knowingly receiving or concealing stolen property.
He made an initial appearance before Special District Judge Emily Mueller last month that was continued until 1:30 p.m. today (Jan. 7).
In the burglary charge, he is accused of breaking and entering into a residence at 970432 S. 3290 Road, Luther, in Lincoln County on around Dec. 1 last month.
The possession of firearm after former felony conviction charge states that on about Dec. 2 last month he knowingly had in his possession a Savage Model 64 .22 caliber rifle after having been convicted of driving under the influence, a felony, in Grant County in November of 2012.
Court records state Cowan was sentenced to seven years in prison on the DUI conviction.
The knowingly receiving or concealing stolen property count, a misdemeanor, accuses Cowan of knowingly concealing that rifle he knew to be stolen from a man near 3290 Road in Luther in Lincoln County.
District Attorney Allan Grubb, in supplemental information filed in the case, states Cowan also was convicted in Canadian County in February of 2017 of second degree burglary and was sentenced to eight years in prison.
According to that information, Cowan also was convicted in Canadian County in December of 2016 of knowingly concealing stolen property, a felony, and he was handed an eight-year prison term on that conviction.
