Bound for state

Chandler, Stroud 4x400 teams chase championships

They were a day apart and half a state away, but the girls 4x400 relay teams from Chandler and Stroud turned in remarkable performances in the regional track meets last week. The Chandler team of Leah Brannon, Hannah Vandenbrand, Jessie Brannon and Bailey Bigbey traveled to Chisholm for the Class 3A regional on Friday and turned in the fastest qualifying time in the state - 4:11.89. Come Saturday, it was time for Stroud’s team of KayLyn Baker, Macey Morris, Brynlee Wages and Madison Ham to shine in the Class 2A regional at Stroud. They broke their own school record and clocked a time of 4:11.46, which, as KayLyn Baker demonstrates in the photo above, was more than a full second better than their time in the state meet two years ago, when they were state runnersup. The relay teams highlight a full week of area teams and individuals competing for championships in track, slow pitch softball and golf. For more, please see Page 1C.
