Katherine J. Stracener, 83, of Choctaw passed away on Feb. 3, 2021 in Edmond. Services were held Saturday at Countryside Baptist Church, with Brother Heath Buster presiding over the services. Interment was at Dale Cemetery, Shawnee, Okla. Services are entrusted to Asa Smith Funeral Service, Harrah.

Katherine was born on March 5, 1937 in Oklahoma City to Theodore W. and Mary Mable (Butler) Aynes. Katherine was one of five children and this is where her love for family developed. Katherine was a lifelong Oklahoman. She loved to fish, go camping, singing and music. Her true passion though was her family. Her daughters remember her for her seamstress and knitting ability. Friends commented on her fashion and inquired often if she could make something for them, but she wanted to keep her fashion secrets to her family and herself.

She was married to Merwyn R. Stracener for over 61 years they had many memories shared together. Merwyn and Katherine met at church and later he proposed to her at the Rock House on 23rd and Dobbs. This started their years of ministry to various churches in the state. Katherine loved to spread the word to the youth as a youth leader for many years.

In describing Katherine her family shared that she was full of life, an exemplary Christian and a Proverbs 31 woman. Merwyn and Katherine’s greatest joys were their three daughters and the love they had for each other.

Katherine was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one daughter, Cyndi Collins; one brother, Ted Aynes; one sister, Arlene Foster.
