Charles Marvin Wilbanks passed away Monday, February 17, 2020, at the age of 87. He was born on the 16th of January in the year 1933 to Beulah and Delmar Wilbanks, though he was raised by his grandma Ollie Wilbanks and she raised him right. He never stole a thing until he was 21 years old. That was when he stole the heart of Elaine Gage, who would become his wife of sixty-five years.

Charles didn’t like butter. He liked anything and everything else, though; especially people, and most especially toddlers. And they liked him back. A lot. When it came to toddlers, he had a gift, and he shared that gift wherever he went. He was the Pied Piper of toddlers. For him and that toddler, time would stand still, a frozen moment radiating with laughter; mainly his. For you, if you were with him and had somewhere to be, time didn’t freeze. You were going to be late. Now, sometimes, he’d pretend he didn’t like dogs, but it was only a ploy to get you to set one in his lap, and if you did, he’d melt like…well, butter.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elaine Gage Wilbanks, his three children, Steven Gage Wilbanks, Scott Barton Wilbanks and Stacey Lynn Wilbanks, daughter-in-law Vanessa Wilbanks, granddaughter Taylor Shaye Wilbanks, son-in-law Mike Wilson, numerous cousins, and more friends than you can conceivably imagine.

Services were held on February 22, 2020, 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in San Marcos, Texas, with burial at San Marcos City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
