Mary Ellen Paine was born September 19, 1934 in Wellston to Oliver and Rosa (Saak) Sapp. She passed away September 2, 2022 in Stroud at the age of 87.
Mary was a resident of Stroud since 1966. She called the staff at the Stroud Healthcare Center her extended family from the time she spent working there as a certified nurses assistant to her time as a resident herself.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Rosa Sapp; siblings, Ella Mae Dotson, Martha Marie Gray, Mabel Alice Sapp, William Robert Sapp; husband of 54 years, Howard Paine; daughters, Barbara Jean Paine, Linda Kay Paine, and her infant daughter. Survivors include her son, Danny Paine and his wife Gail, daughter, Shirley Jones and husband Bill; grandchildren, Butch Paine and wife Crystal, Nikki Jones, Hannah Jones; great-grandchildren, Ian Paine, Ashton Paine; sisters-in-law, Erma Yarborough, Darla Paine; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers donations will be accepted for the Stroud Healthcare Center Christmas Fund, which was very important to Mary. A private service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
