In this crazy world we live in these days, it’s really easy to get caught up in everything that surrounds us. If we lose focus, it can give us a negative outlook on life and draw us away from all the positives there are.

Don’t know about you, but I find myself in a funk sometimes.

Dealing with life on life’s terms isn’t easy these days. There always have been difficulties and challenges before us and that is just part of living.

I too often forget how lucky a person I am and to be a part of this word today.

Gratitude escapes me sometimes when I should be grateful every day that I wake up and can be useful.

With that, as I was out for a walk the other day, I began thinking why I should always be grateful.

Here are some of those.

First and foremost, I have a Lord I can trust and have faith in to lead and direct all my thoughts and actions each day if I will just remember to let Him.

He only wants what is best for me, my family and all the people around me. He is a trusting and loving Lord.

I have a wife, Pat, who is the best thing that ever happened to me. My problem is I fail to tell her that often enough. We’ve been married 42 years.

We have a daughter, Meghan, who grew up to be the beautiful young woman and the good mother that she is today. As our child, she didn’t give us any real problems and that is truly a blessing.

Her husband, Terry, is a great young man who works hard and is a good father.

Their son and our grandson Liam is the sparkle of our lives.

My mother-in-law Ruth is an incredible woman. That’s the best adjective I can use to describe her.

I’m grateful for the parents I had who provided the direction and guidance in my life and early on drilled into me the difference between right and wrong.

I was so lucky to know all my grandparents and have them around well into my adult life. My grandfather Doc had a profound influence on me and I wish he was still with us today.

My sister and I are still close today. Her husband, Randy, is a good man and they have two daughters, one of whom is married and has a husband and they have a son.

The other is a young woman that right now is career oriented.

Pat and I are blessed to have great friends.

I just need to stay focused on all the blessings I have and my life will be fine. Sometimes doing that is another matter.
