James Floyd Walker was born January 8, 1932, in Prague to Harvey Walker and Edith (Welborn). He passed away on May 8, 2026, in Sparks at the age of 94.James was preceded in death by his parents, wife of over 60 years, two brothers, a sister and a son-in-law.

McLoud High School has announced the valedictorians and salutatorian of the Class of 2026. Addison Adams, Dawsen Branum, Jordyn Dennis, Dani Easley, Kaleb Fox, Lillian Lee, Taycee Lewis, Lydia Reece and Launa Troutt are the valedictorians, while Jonathan Yang is the salutatorian.

‘Kind of fast’

Believe it or not, there was a time when Peyton Davis identified primarily as a softball player.“My freshman year, I did not think I was going to be outstanding in track,” she said. “I thought softball was going to be my thing.“I started running track in middle school, but it was never that serious.

Dale wins slow pitch

Dale and Davenport went into the slow-pitch state tournament at Firelake last week with their programs at different places and they had different results, Dale won its eighth slow-pitch state championship by beating Silo, 18-17, in a thrilling home run derby of a championship game on Tuesday.
