Almost 10 years ago voters in Pottawatomie County went to the polls and approved an education sales tax of .495 percent.

Powerlifters go to state

Schools across the area sent athletes to compete in powerlifting at the State level this month, with many placing.Grant Powell, powerlifting coach at Davenport, said they took nine boys to compete in the eight-man powerlifting meet this year.

Early voting for April 1 election

Early voting begins today in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties for the April 1 election where voters have several municipal contests, school board races and bond issues to decide.In Pottawatomie County, all voters can help decide whether to make a county education sales tax permanent.

Stroud school board meeting

The Stroud School Board voted to approve the purchase of playground equipment for the playgrounds at Parkview Elementary School at their regular meeting on Monday, March 10.The equipment will cost $222,315 and will be purchased from Children’s Specialty.

Agra man to show up in court... with an attorney

An Agra man facing two counts of child sexual abuse has been ordered to reappear in court with an attorney in April.John David Somers, Jr., 33 at the time he was charged, has entered an innocent plea. District Judge Sarah Bridge has ordered him to reappear at 9 a.m. on April 15.

Chandler Municipal Authority receives $2.65mln grant

The Chandler MunicipalAuthority was awarded $2.65 million in funding from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board (OWRB) on Tuesday. The grant is through the OWRB American Rescue Plan (ARPA) grant program.The Municipal Authority approved the application at their monthly meeting on Feb. 11.

Cushing man waives preliminary hearing

ACushing man previously convicted of several felonies now facing a robbery charge has waived his preliminary hearing and his arraignment has been scheduled.Donnie Ray Ventris, 59, was formally charged in Lincoln County District on Dec. 31, 2024 with robbery with a dangerous weapon.
