Dale Board of Education members this week approved temporary appropriations for 20252026, hired two new personnel and accepted the resignations of three others.

School Supt. Will Jones explained the requested temporary appropriations include $7,977,313 for the General Fund, $449,950 for the building fund and $464,608 for the child nutrition fund.

Jones also announced and introduced to the board members two new personnel.

They include Dodge Nichols, new Vo-Ag instructor and Makenzie Gill, who will teach second grade.

Both were approved by the board members for 2025-2026 school year. Nichols has spent the last 12 years as a Vo-Ag instructor in the Tecumseh School District and this will be Gill’s first teaching assignment. She has been assisting in first grade, Elementary Principal Tamee Daniel advised board members.

The board also reorganized for the next 12 months. Tim Collins will serve as President, Roger Batt is vice president and Ronnie Newton will be the clerk.

In her report, Daniel said currently there are 354 students in grades Pre-K through 4. Middle School Principal Kim Powell told board members enrollment stands at 283 students in grades 5-8.

Following about a 35-minute executive session, board members returned to open meeting and voted to accept the resignations of retiring teachers Jacque Huff, Marcia Permerter and Lauri Goodwin.

Jones announced that Brent Vanlandingham is stepping down as director of maintenance and school resource officer.

Vanlandingham, who briefly attended Monday night’s meeting, told board members, “I’ve enjoyed the journey,” saying what the school district has achieved over the past few years security wise has made it “one of the safest school districts in the state.”

Jones also reviewed financial information showing warrants as of March of 2025 were $5,134,089 compared with $4,353,051 in March of 2024.

The building fund cash balance for March of 2025 was $710,808 compared to $336,704, an increase of $374,104 over March of 2024.

The General Fund cash balance in March of 2025 stood at $2,060,227 and in March of 2024 was $1,897,749 an increase of $162,478.

State Aid as of March 2025 was $3,183,001. As of March of 2024, it stood at $3,023,597.

JonessaidCountySales Tax balance for March of 2025 was $322,128 compared to March of 2024 which was $302,058, up $20,070.

March county sales tax revenue was $31,353, Jones reported.

The County Donation Account is $77,460.

Following his report, board members approved the financial report.

In other business, board members approved a fund-raiser, a Middle School Dance to benefit the Middle School Leadership Veteran’s Day activities.
