Unhappy in Meeker

Last week in updates from Meeker Town Hall, my name was listed as one of the properties that had been cleaned up as “O” in the list. I really do not appreciate being listed as someone who has been successfully forced to clean up, mow, etc., by the Town of Meeker.

Town Talk

Town Talk is staying busy, as usual, working to “spruce up” our community. We are currently working on banners for Main Street, a canopy for the playground area in Foster Park and some decorative touches to the courtyard. I’ll post more information as it becomes available.

Missing rice

I have developed a habit of buying in bulk, or at least in multiples. Say I run out of shaving cream. When I go for more, I’ll buy maybe four cans, which will last me six months or more. Toothpaste? There are a dozen tubes in the drawer. Plus a couple of five-packs of toothbrushes.

Can you believe this is the last paper you will receive in July? August is upon us and once again I’m sure we are all asking ourselves, “Where does the time go?” Teachers report to school on August 10th and students who choose to return to traditional school will do so on August 13th.

Looking back at the family

About 20 years ago a first cousin on my dad’s side of the family provided me and our other cousins with a copy of the genealogical record of our ancestral families as he put it, “that make us what we are today.” Obviously, it took a great amount of work on his part and that of his wife as well.

Happenings at Prairie Pointe

“If the cat can’t go, neither do I” gruffed Mr. Gene Edward Barrett to the stewardess who had just explained the oversized cat carrier for Henry, his 16- pound kitty, would not fit under the first class seat in front of him and, consequently, would not be allowed on the plane ride to California.

If you’re going to Shawnee, better take a mask

Shawnee has passed a mask mandate and persons in areas outside of Shawnee, including those throughout Lincoln County who travel there, should take notice. The mandate began at 12:01 a.m. Monday and will remain in effect until 12:01 a.m. Sept. 30, at which time it will expire.

1. Update on Meeker Lake “Quapaw 15 Project” The Soil Conservation group from Chandler chose a contractor to take the 24” water pipe apart for the camera to do an inspection on the inside of the pipe. This is the pipe from the Meeker Lake water control tower that runs under the dam.

Happenings at Prairie Pointe

Another first at Prairie Pointe this week----we had a baby shower! Hate to disappoint everyone but it was NOT for one of the residents. Had it been, we would have called the Pope. The shower was for CNA/MAT Shareta (Ree) Gonzales and the baby girl she is expecting in September, Melody Lynne.
