On Memorial Day afternoon, my wife Pat and I once again became a great aunt and uncle. Our niece Sarah gave birth to a baby boy.
Wyatt James was born at 2:39 p.m. on Memorial Day.
Sarah is the daughter of Pat’s younger sister, Marilyn.
Sarah and her husband Brandon reside in Ardmore but Sarah had the baby at a Norman hospital as planned.
Pat said later that evening she just loves it when a new baby is born.
Late on Monday morning this week, Meghan first texted Pat letting her know that Sarah was in labor. She kept her mom informed as Sarah’s labor progressed until her baby boy was born.
It brought back a lot of memories of when our daughter Meghan had her baby boy Liam, our grandson, almost five years ago.
Pat and I were up for 45-46 hours without any real sleep during that time in August of 2018. When we had gotten up Wednesday morning of that week, our heads didn’t hit the pillow again until after 4 a.m. Friday.
But I promise you it was so worth because at 1:39 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, 2018, our first and only grandchild, little Liam Henry Jackson, came into this world.
He weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces, and was 20 ½ inches long. Our daughter Meghan was in labor more than 36 hours. He was born cesarean section. Sarah’s baby this week weighed 6 pounds, three ounces, was born at 2:39 p.m. May 29 (Memorial Day) and I’m not sure yet how long little Wyatt James is.
Fortunately, Sarah was not in labor nearly as long.
Meg’s labor mirrored her mother’s when Pat gave birth to her more than three decades earlier except she didn’t have it by cesarean section, though we think she should have.
As Pat and I were talking Monday, there were some similarities with Meghan and Sarah’s pregnancies. By the way, they are first cousins.
Meghan and Sarah both gave birth to their babies in hospitals outside of the cities they reside in as planned, they both had boys, and each of them was the same age when their babies were born, nearly five years apart.
Meghan, who resides in Norman with her husband Terry, had Liam at the Chickasaw Medical Center in Ada.
A couple of differences were Meghan’s son was born during the early morning hours and Wyatt James came into this world in the early afternoon.
Meghan’s labor was more difficult and Liam was born by cesarean section and Sarah’s thank goodness wasn’t and Wyatt James was born naturally.
Reflecting back, after we had but about three hours sleep after being up nearly two days without it, by 7:15 that morning people were already calling and texting, so Pat and I went on about three hours sleep for much of that Friday. After a brief nap that afternoon, we returned to the hospital that evening to actually visit our grandson, who was still in the NICU unit, for the first time.
By the time we visited him, he was improving. He was so precious and still is.
