Janis Rae Mace left this world on Tuesday, January 7, at 2 p.m. in Mobile, Alabama, at the age of 85. She was born on January 19, 1939, in Pawnee, Oklahoma, to Harlan Gurney and Ruth Payne Gurney.
On December 17, 1960, Jan married the love of her life, Glenn Pace, at Stroud First Baptist Church. She then graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1961 with a degree in elementary education. She went on to fulfill a 27-year career in education, teaching in Fort Worth, Texas, and Stroud, Oklahoma.
Jan is preceded in death by her parents, Harlan and Ruth Gurney; her beloved husband, Army Chaplain Capt. Glenn D. Mace; her sons, Mark and Glenn Mace, Jr.; and a greatgrandchild, Blakely Mace. She is survived by her daughters,MarthaThomas and Brian of Prosper, Texas, and Paula Mace and Juli of Mobile, Alabama; grandchildren, Chris Mace and Lisa, and Brianna Katsigiannis and Billy; and great-grandchildren Braxton and Brooklyn Mace.
Services will be held on Saturday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Stroud First Baptist Church and officiated by
