Students win OK scholarships

Three students from Lincoln and Pottawatomie counties were among 111 Oklahoma high school students who received scholarships or tuition grants through this year’s Oklahoma Scholarship Competition, said a press release.

Beau Newport, a sophomore from Meeker High School, received a $1,000 tuition waiver to Seminole State College.

Mattison White, a senior from Chandler High School, received a $1,000 tuition waiver from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Isabelle O’Daniel, a junior from North Rock Creek High School, received a $1,000 cash scholarship from Dr. Nazih Zuhdi in honor of Omar and Shelley Zuhbi.

More than $125,000 were awarded to the students. They were honored at the annual Scholarship AwardsAssembly onApril 22 at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, the press release said.

In February and March, more than 1,200 students applied to participate in this year’s competition, which was open to all high school students. They then took an online Oklahoma history examination in order to qualify for scholarships. Individual donors provided the cash scholarships while Oklahoma colleges and universities provided scholarships and tuition grants, according to the press release.

“The high school students at yesterday’s Scholarship Awards Assembly demonstrate incredible potential and commitment to growth and achievement,” said Gini Moore Campbell, vice president of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame. “Here at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, we work to show Oklahomans of all ages what is possible in this great state. We are honored to play a role in supporting the next generation of Oklahoma’s leaders as they pursue education and opportunity.”
