Unbeaten Shattuck built a 22-6 lead in the third quarter and held on to beat Davenport’s Bulldogs in the state semifinals Friday night at Southwestern University in Weatherford.
The loss ended the Bulldogs’ season and an eight-game winning streak. Davenport finishes the season with an 11-3 record.
Shattuck advanced to Friday’s state finals against Regent Prep.
The Indians scored twice in the first half and led 14-0 before Tyler Harrison ran for a two-yard score to get Davenport on the board with 4:35 left in the third quarter.
Shattuck scored again a minute later to make the score 22-6.
Quarterback Carson Funk hit Cal Harrelson for a 27-yard scoring pass and then ran for the conversion with just over a minute left in the period to cut it to 22-14, but that was as close as the Bulldogs could get.
Shattuck scored on a long run just before the end of the period to account for the final score.
Kyle Hobill finished the game 87 yards on 12 carries and two receptions for four yards.
Tyller Harrison had 43 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and had a catch for eight yards.
Cal Harrelson had four catches for 71 yards, including his 27-yard touchdown, and Casey Harrelson had a three catches for 36 yards. Clayton Perceful had a catch for 50 yards.
Funk ran 17 times for 48 yards and was 12 of 18 passing for 174 yards.
Wyatt Cross led the Bulldogs’ defense with 15 tackles, six of them solo. Casey Harrelson had 11 tackles, Jaxson Walker and Joseph had six each, Cal Harrelson had five and Hobill and Funk had four each.
The loss ended a remarkable run by Davenport, which was 38-4 over the last seasons following a state championship in 2015, opened the season with a loss and was 3-2 halfway into the regular season.
They peeled off eight straight wins, including six shutouts, and allowed only two touchdowns during that span.
