It has been fun watching the progress on Lyndon and Lisa Dervin Patton’s new building being built on the east end of Main Street. I drive by when I’m out, but Lyndon has also been keeping us updated on Facebook.
Dragging Main is back in fashion, but you need to make sure you drive from Charles Palmer’s Main Street carwash all the way to the east end or you’re going to miss out.
For a long time there hasn’t been activity past the Rock Café except the laundromat, but Main Street is starting to see some revitalization on the east end.
Along with Patton’s Produce on the south side we have Lusetta’s Fresh Grub on the north side. The Pattons don’t have an opening date yet but will sell seasonal plants, produce and some other items.
Lisa did tell me that right now she has a lot of ripe, almost ripe and green tomatoes for sale as well as tons of peppers. They also have raised garden beds for sale. Stop by and see them and check them out on Facebook under Patton’s Produce and Lusetta’s Fresh Grub.
I hope by spring we have a miniature golf course next to the laundromat so we should have the entire Main Street hopping.
Another great business on Main Street and one you may not be aware of are Brandon Kanady’s businesses, Skylinkwisp. com (Internet company) and Sooner Signs (sign company) located in the old Ruby’s Drive-In.
I’ve been in Stroud so long that many people don’t have the same “past business reference point” as I do for old buildings. Even Brandon referred to his building as the old Ruby’s Drive-In so if that young whippersnapper knows that history so should you. (lol)
If you are looking for new or different Internet service, give Brandon a call and see what he has to offer. He has many choices of signage, too. You can drive by and see the signs located on his windows and get a good idea of what he can do for you or your business.
Brandon has been a resident of the Stroud area for about 14 years moving here from Cushing. He has had his business on Main Street for the last four years. It’s time we check out all he has to offer and give him some local business. You may reach Brandon by calling him at 405-240-1449.
Marshall and Sherry Horn were back in town last week and I had the chance to visit with them. The Horns left Stroud about 15 years ago but have retained their building on Main Street that was once home to Horn’s Art Gallery and Framing.
Town Talk is giving the front of the building a facelift, but the Horns tell me the building is for sale. It has the downstairs business and an apartment on the second floor.
They now reside in Tulsa where they run their non-profit organization Kids Against Hunger Global, Inc.
The mission of this organization is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the U.S. and to feed starving children around the globe.
They do this by providing a high-nutrition food that is packaged by volunteer youth and community groups. The couple has traveled to both Haiti and Mexico the past seven years. It was great to catch up with them.
My new friend, Sonny Adkins, that I introduced you to a few weeks ago was back in town this past week. He had lunch at D’s and then treated himself to ice cream at Unique OK. I guess he enjoyed his visit to Stroud so much a couple of weeks ago that he decided to make a return visit. That’s what we like to hear.
The Chamber of Commerce is once again hosting Trick or Treat on Main Street this Friday. The fun starts at 4:00 p.m.
A costume contest will be held at the Route 66 Pavilion. Beginning at 5:00 p.m. and weather permitting, Town Talk will host Grill and Chill at Unique OK.
This is a fund raiser for our many community projects. We will be grilling bratwursts and hot dogs and the meal will include chips and a drink. Corn Hole and Ring Toss will be set up for you to test your skills.
We will have outdoor “canned” music and dancing will even be permitted. At dusk we plan on showing an outdoor movie.
Right now the weather looks accommodating, but I will keep you posted on Facebook if we must cancel this event.
Bring your lawn chairs and blankets and come join the fun.
Town Talk will be hanging some veteran’s banners next week weather permitting.
Those veterans being honored with banners at this time are Ed Smalley, Jason Smalley, Johnny Terry, Jr., Junior Owens, Jack Poskey, Jim Waller, Calvin Henshaw and Carl Doughty. Order your banner today by calling me at 918-527-9833.
Did you know John D. Newnam’s business Newnan’s Outdoors is also our local rent-a-tool location?
Town Talk picked up a power washer there last week for one of our projects. Thanks to John D. and Sheana for all their support of our community.
Gary and Monica Babinec at True Value are a big help to me with Town Talk projects. It’s nice to have these local businesses who not only have the products we need but can advise us, too, on the best “tools” for the job.
William Smittle is the owner of T-Town Productions which is located at the old Malicoate Chevrolet building. William rents and sets up audio equipment, lights and staging for all kinds of events such as festivals, parties and concerts.
His business is not one that has a store front open to the public, but you can catch William many days out and about on Main Street. If you see him, ask him about his business.
He is always willing to help with whatever project I’m working on or any audio questions I might need answered such as “How do we get music all up and down Main Street?”
He let us throw a hose over his fence the other day to get water for a project we were working on. Stroud is full of business owners helping each other and helping their customers. Let’s support them. It’s amazing what services are available right here in Stroud, OK.
Have a great week and remember to shop and dine local…………..first.
