Thank you to everyone who came out and supported Town Talk’s second Farmer’s Market this past Saturday. Everyone had a great time and I saw lots of people leaving with their arms loaded.
Both Vivian Henshaw and Chelsea Weeks told me laughingly, “I had a great time but spent too much money.”
Bobbie Wintz came by looking for some homegrown tomatoes, but she arrived too late. They were all gone by mid-morning so next month set your alarms early.
We drew for the two American flag flowerpots at the end of the market. Winners were Lisa Dervin Patton and Pam Jordan Hunt. They were thrilled to win, and I was happy for them, but I was wishing I could give everyone a pot who donated to the cause.
I do have a “feeler” out trying to locate more of these pots so we could just sell them to those of you wanting one. We raised $1000 to be donated to the Pavilion restrooms.
Face painting was a big hit with the kids. August showed up as himself and left as Spiderman!
Thanks, again, to Tommy Smith with Central Oklahoma Federal Credit Union for donating money for prizes for the car show.
Debbie Willis Austin, Class of 1972, and Patton’s Produce (owners Lyndon and Lisa Dervin Patton, Class of 1981), are our two latest donors to the Pavilion restrooms.
All I can say, is thank you, thank you, thank you! A big “shout out” to Town Talk volunteer Mandy Clark for organizing our Farmer’s Markets.
Events like these take a lot of work and Mandy is doing a great job and bringing lots of variety to the Market. A big thank you, too, to Jerry Murfin for helping Mandy with the car show. That was Mandy’s special treat for all the dads who attended. Hope to see everyone next month on July 18th for the Farmer’s Market.
For those of you receiving your newspaper on Wednesday, tonight will be our third Town Talk Block Party.
Anyone who wants to volunteer is welcome to come join us. We will meet at the Pavilion on Main Street at 7:00 p.m. and get “clean up” assignments. We had 20 volunteers two weeks ago and we accomplished so much. Let’s have another good turnout and continue beautifying our downtown.
I spoke with Stroud alum Gary Gardner, Class of 1965, currently from Mustang, OK at the Market on Saturday. Gary is a Stroud graduate and the older (but just a little bit) brother of Elmer Don Gardner. Gary entered his car in the car show and told me he’s looking for a Stroud Tiger license tag to display on the front of his car.
You know what they say, “Once a Tiger, Always a Tiger.” Town Talk will have those license plates for sale soon so be saving your pennies.
I also saw Grace King Ellsworth of Cushing, Class of 1966 and Bette Terry Mount of Tulsa, Class of 1969, doing a little shopping.
Mom had a good visit with Stroud alum, Neal Bacon, Class of 1978. He said he will coach in Drumright this next year. It’s always nice to see and catch up with Stroud alums at our local events.
We have a new business opening on Main Street in the next couple of weeks. It is called the Estate Barn and is owned by William and Heather Fowler. It is located on the south side of Main Street between 4th and 5th Avenues.
Watch for their opening. Stop by and welcome them and see what goodies they have for sale.
Janice Hoover at OJ’s Plants and Petals is still looking for a buyer for our local flower shop. Janice has a well-established business right on Route 66, so you not only get the business but a longstanding list of regular customers.
Stroud has had a flower shop for the last 40 years. I hope someone snaps this “good deal” up so we don’t find ourselves without a flower shop.
Town Talk has a couple of fundraisers we are planning but they are in the early stages. I think both, if we can make them happen, will be a plus for our community. We will give you the details when we have them ironed out so watch this column.
We are still raising monies for our public restrooms for Main Street. We have raised $1000 through fundraising, $2000 from donations and $2000 from Oklahoma Beautiful. We are half-way there. If you would like to donate to this project and help our hometown, mail a check, made out to City of Stroud, to me, Diana Reed at 301 West 6th Street, Stroud, OK 74079.
I can also take payment with PayPal, Venmo or Cash App. You may call me at 918-527-9833. If 100 people donate $50, we can get those restrooms built in no time. No donation is too small – we love ones, fives, tens and twenties, too!
I know I am always asking for something, but it all goes to help our community.
You, our local citizens, and our alums have been so supportive. Town Talk could not do what it does without each of you. Thank you for loving and caring about our hometown, Stroud. We truly are Stroud Proud.
Our local businesses and restaurants are ready with great merchandise and good food, just waiting for you to walk through the door. Don’t disappoint them.
Always remember to shop and dine local………………..first! Have a great week.
