Meeker junior Caden Wolford had a good career Friday night.
He rushed for 313 yards and five touchdowns as the Bulldogs shook off a raft of first-half penalties to beat Kellyville 68-26 in their district opener.
As a team, Meeker ran for 566 yards and made a living off the zone read.
In addition to Wolford’s 313, quarterback Jacob Martin carried 15 times for 177 yards and two scores, plus two more that were called back because of penalties.
Sophomore Cam Holt ran once for 28 yards and a touchdown and junior J.J.
Bloomer ran three times for 35 yards and a score.
Meeker led 28-20 at the half, despite repeatedly shooting themselves in all extremeties with penalties and turnovers.
But when Martin scored on the first play of the second half, the game was no longer in doubt.
“The second half, we cleaned up the penalties, we protected the football and we finished drives.
“When we get things going, we can play pretty well.”
Wolford’s night began with a 50-yard touchdown run to put Meeker up 16-6 in the first quarter.
He added another touchdown early in the second quarter and his third with 6:03 left in the half.
He added a 2-yard score and a 20-yard-er in the third quarter, the last one making the score 48-0.
“Caden played lights out,” said Meeker coach D.J. Howell.
Wolford has been over 100 yards in all four Meeker games this season, carrying 89 times for 704 yards, an average of 7.9 per carry.
Meeker is 2-2 for the season now and 1-0 in district play.
The Bulldogs next go to Jones, a 42-29 victor over Chandler last week.
