The memories of pretty dresses, loud music and late night dancing will be had by Wellston juniors and seniors, despite the COVID-19 closures.

The parents of the Wellston High School 2020 seniors are hosting a Prom on June 26 at 7:00 p.m. at the Rusty Mallard in Chandler.

“I hated the thought of them missing out,” Wellston parent and Prom Planner Tonya Neely said.

When the decision was made for all school activities, including prom, to be cancelled, Neely got on Facebook and started talking with other parents to see if there would be interest in hosting a prom.

Neely said she was able to talk to the Prom Committee and Sponsors, who had already started the planning process.

Neely’s youngest daughter, Grace Neely, is a senior who watch her two older sisters get all dolled up and attend their junior and senior proms. Tonya wanted to be able to give Grace those memories as well.

The theme of the evening will be Enchanted Rose Garden. There will be a D.J., photographer and food truck. It is free for Wellston Juniors and Seniors, but for a date, who is under 21 and a high school student, it’s $20.

The nominees for Prom Queen include Raven Bell, Chloe Batson, Grace Neely and Ashley Fullerton.

The nominees for Prom King include Timothy Bynum, Tyler Johnson, Silas Wilson and Hayden Rumpl. Attendees will vote at the door when they check in.
