Like a lot of others things this year, the Chandler Public Library Fall Story Time will be very different. From Sept. 1 until Christmas, there will be children’s books available to be checked out.

The books include easy reader, nonfiction and second-grade juvenile fiction books with crafts to do at home. The crafts were chosen with pre-school aged children in mind.

To start the fall off, books about grandparents and grandchildren were chosen to celebrate Grandparents Day, Sept. 13. Included are a card children can make and a bookmark as a gift for their grandparents. The books are “Grandma, Grandpa and Me,” “Little Ree,” “Drawn Together” and “Everything is Different at Nonna’s House.”

There is a craft for for this year’s book for the Small Smart for a Better World literacy program. When checking out the book “Juniper’s Butterfly Garden,” you get a coupon for up to four free passes to the Oklahoma City Zoo.

Every book with a craft packet will have an “all about me” poster for kids to fill out.Select books will include a Sonic coupon good for one free medium slush.

Special projects are planned through December, however, COVID numbers may require changes. The situation will be evaluated regularly to maintain safety for families.

Because of restrictions due to the virus, children under 12 are not allowed in the library except on Saturday mornings. Two children can come in with one adult to look for books. There is a book cart by the front door with some of the most popular books on it for children who come at other times.

Parents and children can access the card catalog on the website chandlerlibrary.okpls.org. Pick out a book and call the library at (405) 258-3204 to reserve the items you want until you can pick them up. The card catalog can also be accessed on the app Librista.
