Marshall “Slim” and Mary Ruth (Kay) Taylor will celebrate their 70 th wedding anniversary on Tuesday, May 26. The couple was united in marriage on May 26, 1950 in Shawnee, Okla. They have resided in Lincoln County since 1953 having lived in Chandler since 1956.
In their early years of marriage, Marshall was employed by Oklahoma Seismograph and later worked in the oil field. He served as a Lincoln County Deputy Sheriff from 1966 to 1971. Upon leaving the Sheriff’s Department he became self-employed as the owner/operator of Taylor Septic Tank & Portable Toilets.
Mary Ruth worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone in Chandler from 1959 to 1963 and was employed by the First National Bank of Chandler from 1966 to 1978.
The couple retired in 1993 and spent their retirement years first traveling then working part-time for the Corps of Engineers as relief Gate Attendants at Cookson Bend and Strayhorn State Parks at Tenkiller Lake.
The Taylors have two daughters, Kay West and husband Paul of Oklahoma City and Sue Stice and husband Larry of Bella Vista, Ark. They have two grandchildren, Jennifer Stice-Nunn of Chandler and Jeffrey Stice and wife Sarah and family of Edmond, Okla. Great-grandchildren are Laryssa Nunn and Nate Nunn of Chandler.
