The Chandler Area Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon, Tuesday, April 12, at the Route 66 Interpretive Center. The caterer will be Hello Catering.
In recognition of April’s Celebrate Diversity Month, the guest speaker will be Ronald Wahkinney, Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, an International Certified Gambling Counselor and member of the Comanche Nation. He is the great-great grandson of Quanah Parker, the last Chief of the Comanches.
Wahkinney will speak on “Digital Indians…Native Americans in the 21st Century.” Attendees can gain an understanding of the potential negative effects of historical trauma on unsuspecting Native youth.
Wahkinney earned his master’s degree from Cameron University and was the Director of the Comanche Nation Prevention & Recovery Center for 10 years. He is now the Associate Director of the Oklahoma Association on Problem Gambling & Gaming in Norman.
