Entries sought for Prague Kolache Festival

After two years of cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers are planning to celebrate the Prague Kolache Festival on Saturday, May 7, with the parade beginning at 11 a.m. Theme for the festival parade is “From Praha to Prague.”

Entries are being accepted for the parade. More information and applications are available on the festival website praguekolachefestival.com, by calling the festival office (405) 567-4866, or at Prague City Hall. There are 10 divisions in the float category that have cash prize awards. The deadline for submitting completed parade applications is Monday, April 25, to be eligible for prize money.

The Sooner Schooner and the Ruf Neks from the University of Oklahoma are already committed to participate.

All businesses, school and civic organizations, clubs, churches and individuals are encouraged to participate by having a float or entry in the parade. Judged entries include floats, drill teams, animal/equestrian and a Crowd Pleaser award from among all entries in the parade.

Floats are judged on theme portrayal, “From Praha to Prague,” for originality, construction and design, and eye appeal. Float divisions are two separate categories for Youth Division and Adult Division with prizes given to first through fifth place - $250, $200, $150, $100, $50. In the Commercial Division first through third place plaques will be awarded.

Drill Teams are divided into amateur class, which is youth teams high school age or below and professional class for adults college age or above. They will compete for first place $100, second $75 and third $50.

Equestrian category includes round-up clubs, riding clubs, horse-drawn wagons and carriages competing for first through third place prizes of $150, $100 and $75.

Animal miscellaneous (other than horses) compete for first through third place prizes of $100, $75 and $50.

Coloring Contest

A coloring contest will be held in conjunction with the Kolache Festival to highlight the Czech heritage of Prague and promote the Festival.

There will be three categories for judging - preschool/elementary, middle school and high school.

The winners of each category will receive a wristband for the carnival.

Coloring sheets are available at Prague Public Schools, Vision Bank and BancFirst, Prague. Deadline to submit entries is Friday, April 15. Return entries to the same places where the sheets are available.
