Beta Sigma Phi members have been busy with meetings and activities and welcomed a new member, Andrea Thompson, who was inducted into the chapter in a candlelight pledge ceremony conducted by Sue Helms, President, at the home of Linda Waller who also presented the program on the “Joys of Sisterhood” and how friends support of each other. Thompson was presented with a pledge pin and yellow rose, official flower of the sorority, and will begin a period of Pledge training to learn the traditions and history of the organization. The President presided over all business meetings and birthdays and anniversaries were recognized. Meeting hostesses included Pam Clement and Darlene Lau whose program on “Disaster Preparedness” included safety tips and how to stock a storm shelter; and host Sue Helms and Sandy Jones led members in a New Year’s Word Search game. Pam Hunt and Andrea Thompson’s meeting included a presentation by members of the Stroud Fire Department on fire safety with the chapter making a donation to one of the fire department projects; and Mary Jackson hosted at the home of Linda Waller and presented a program on “How Stress Affects Health.” The program on Stress continued at a meeting hosted by Sue Helms with Jackson sharing how “doodling” and “scribbling” can be stress relievers and members participated in the exercise proving that doodling and interpreting the scribbling brings laugh and helps stress. Officers for next sorority year were elected and will be installed at the annual Founder’s Day banquet later this month. Chris Hodge was elected President, Sandy Jones, Vice President, Pam Hunt, Treasurer, Linda Waller, Recording Secretary, Linda Stephens, Corresponding secretary and Mary Jackson, Extension Officer. The chapter continued membership in the Stroud Chamber of Commerce and Lincoln County on Stage. The hostesses served refreshments at their meetings. Memorials were done in honor of deceased charter member, Mickey Snook, and Ralph Jones, husband of member Sandy Jones. Attending meetings and activities were Sue Helms, Linda Stephens, Andrea Thompson, Linda Waller, Mary Jackson, Sandy Jones, Rachel Shields, Cindy Mason, Pam Hunt, Darlene Lau, Pam Clement,Kim Johnson and Chris Hodge.
