Charges in turnpike case

A motorist faces a felony and two misdemeanors after he was arrested by a state trooper on the TurnerTurnpike in Lincoln County.

Formal charges were filed May 3 in Lincoln County District Court against Steven Mitchell Jones, 31, of Skiatook.

The felony he faces is distribution of a Controlled Dangerous Substance including possession with intent to distribute. The misdemeanors are possession of CDS and unlawful possession of paraphernalia.

His bond was set at $20,000. He made his initial appearance May 5 beforeSpecialJudgeEmily Mueller and she ordered him back in court for a pre-preliminary hearing on June 23.

She continued that until July 28 and on that date moved it until 1:30 p.m. on Sep. 15.

In Count 1, he is accused on April 3 of possessing about 8 pounds of marijuana wax, containing THC, a deviate of marijuana with the intent to distribute the substance.

And the other misdemeanor accuses Mitchell of possessing several pipes and straws used to smoke, ingest and consume marijuana.

State Trooper Matthew Ludwiginaprobablecause affidavit reported he observed Mitchell traveling east on I-44 in Lincoln County in a Hyundai Elantra at 90 miles per hour in a 75 mile mph zone. The trooper stated that Mitchell’s car crossed the solid yellow line on the inside shoulder and that he conducted a traffic stop.

The trooper further stated he smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and that he requested Jones exit his car and have a seat in the patrol unit.

He said he noticed Jones exhibit several indicators of criminal behavior.

Further investigation by Ludwig led to his finding white residue in a cup holder, a pill bottle with pills inside it, a glass jar of marijuana wax residue and two jars of marijuana wax along with an assortment of drug paraphernalia.
