Dale extends contract for school superintendent

Dale’s Board of Education has voted to extend the contract of its superintendent by a year beginning in July of 2023 and members also hired two new people.

The board held a special meeting Dec.12 rather than on Dec. 5 due to illness of some members.

The board spent about 25 minutes in executive session before returning to open session and voting to approve an amendment to School Supt. Will Jones’s contract.

Jones said his original three-year contract that begin July 1 of this year was amended beginning July 1, 2023 to run until June 30, 2026.

The board members also voted to hire Nicholas Walls as a high school teacher who will begin in January and an elementary aide, Sydney Starkey, who also will start in January.

They accepted the resignation of Carla Villareal who was an elementary aide.

Board members also approved a Student Council bake sale as a fund-raiser.

During his superintendent’s report, Jones also reviewed with the board revenue comparisons of November 2021 and November 2022.

In November of 2021, warrants totaled $1,987,815 and in November this year the figure is $2,112,539 which is $124,724 more.

The building fund cash balance in November of a year ago stood at $21,908. Last month it totaled $105,379 which is up $83,471.

The district’s General Fund cash balance in November of 2021 was $143,482 and in November of 2022 it totaled $238,009. That is an increase of $94,527 over a year ago.

State aid received in November of 2021 was $1,080,284. In November of this year, Dale had received $1,082,895, which is $2,611 more than in November of 2021.

The County Education sales tax balance was $320,319 in November of a year ago and in November of this year it is $434,339 an increase of $114,020. Jones pointed out November’s county sales tax check was $27,756.

He advised the board 2022-2023 Esser III funds are $452,834.

Elementary, Middle School and High School reports were presented respectively by Tamee Daniel, Kim Powell and JD Widner.
