Meeker school board meeting

Meeker Board of Education members this week voted approval of adding a second teacher to the agricultural education program.

School Supt Jeff Prutt explained to board members, “Our numbers are there to support a second teacher and Career Tech will pay for that second teacher. We need to try to get one hired as soon as possible,” he added.

Pruitt reminded board members that Vo-Ag advisor Logan Johns had the No. 1 Vo-Ag program in the nation in the Covid-19 year and most recently the program also placed in the top 10 in the country.

Board members were also provided with the high school and middle school dropout report and the College Remediation report.

Middle School Principal Matt Jones noted there was only one dropout at that level. High School Principal Brad Buxton reported there were seven dropouts and the majority of those had moved out of the district, he said.

Jones also advised the board enrollment is 168 in grades 6-8, one down in the seventh grade but two students are coming to enroll this Friday.

Regarding the Remediation report, Buxton said it’s for the 2020-2021 graduation class and that 26 students went to college. “We send the most students per capita to college in Lincoln County,” he stated.

Buxton told board members enrollment in grades 9-12 is at 236, adding. “we gained four kids.”

Elementary Principal Sarah Flowers informed the board, “We’re up in enrollment at 337 students.” That compares to 327 in August and she further stated, “We have three more coming at the first of the year.”

In a report submitted to the board by Lindsey Potts, Meeker Education Center/Alternation Ed Director, it shows 100 students K-12 are taking advantage of the virtual and blended learning opportunities.

“Our program will have four students graduate at the end of the semester to begin their future endeavors. Two will start college, one will begin attending Vo-Tech as an adult and one will be going into the work industry,” she wrote.

After going into and coming out of executive session, the board members accepted the resignation of Erica Grimes, elementary aide, and hired Kristina Cushenberry, elementary ParaProfessional.

They also presented Pruitt with his evaluation.
