With daytime highs soaring into triple digits, OG&E has released tips on staying cool and saving during high temperatures.
OG&E said while there is no call for customers to reduce their electricity or take action, there are some ways to reduce energy use. The company said in a press release that shifting energy usage away from the hottest part of the day can make a difference. It also recommended raising the thermostat a few degrees if you can stay comfortable. Each degree a thermostat is raised can save up to 3 percent in energy costs.
OG&E also recommended using fans to keep air moving through a house. Ceiling fans use as much electricity as a light bulb and far less than an A/C unit. It also suggested keeping curtains closed on the south- and west-facing windows, as well as using a slow cooker, air fryer or outdoor grill instead of an oven.
Should anyone need relief from the heat, there are designated cool zones across the OG&E service area that can be found on its website.
“When temperatures climb, customers typically use more energy and may see higher monthly bills as air conditioners work overtime to combat extreme heat,” said Sheradee Hurst, OG&E public relations manager. “From personalized energy insights and billing plans to efficiency programs and financial assistance, OG&E provides resources to help customers stay comfortable and manage energy costs through the summer.”
These tools and resources can also be found on OG&E’s website. Customers experiencing financial hardships may qualify for payment assistance and energy-saving home improvements through various programs, such as the Low-Income Assistance Program or the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program.
