Burglary charges were filed against two men for an incident in Davenport in mid-July.
District Attorney Adam Panter filed one felony count of burglary in the second degree against Raymond George, 60, and Gregory Cobbs, 65, on July 30, according to court documents.
George has two previous felony convictions -- theft of copper and injuring telephone wires -- from October 2013 in Pottawatomie County.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed by Dep. Christopher Vickery of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy was informed of two individuals trying to break into a storage building on Santa Fe Avenue in Davenport at around 10 p.m.
When he arrived at the scene, he found two individuals standing next to a black pickup truck with a trailer attached that was backed up to a storage building on the property. The two individuals were identified as George and Cobbs. George informed Dep. Vickery that his boss, “Lance,” sent him a work order to go to the address and clean up and do lawn work.Dep.HoustonByford looked over the work order, saying that all it said was to put a lock box on the property. During this time, George was unable to get in contact with his boss.
Vickery reported that he was able to contact the property owner, who said that he had not been in contact with anyone named Lance and didn’t know of any work order. A witness spoke to the deputy, reporting that he approached the individuals to inquire about what they were doing and was told cleaning debris. The witness reported that he spoke to Lance and was told the men were supposed to be doing lawn service andthatwhatevertheywere doing at the property wasn’t what they were supposed to be doing, the affidavit said.
A second witness was called by the first witness and told that the two men were taking his property. The second witness told Vickery that when he arrived, he saw several items in the truck that belonged to him.
Deps. Byford and Vickery took photos of the items inside the truck and the bed of the truck. The lawn mower and four-wheeler had already been removed from the trailer. The property owner said he wished to press charges. Arrow Wrecker took possession of the vehicle and trailer for a hold due to both being used in the commission of a felony, the report said.
