The home of over 100 years of Lincoln County history is getting a facelift.

The Lincoln County Museum of Pioneer History has been undergoing a variety of renovations the past few months.

Since late September, the volunteers at the museum have relocated the genealogy room, painted the walls of the new genealogy room, laid donated tile and have reorganized and moved current exhibits.

Currently, the museum volunteers are working on opening up the gift shop, expanding the Route 66 exhibit and moving computers into the new genealogy room.

In the blueprints for change, the museum wants to open a Children’s Play and Learning Center that will include a play store, dress up area and wagon.

“We just need help,” museum volunteer Dee Douglas said.

However, before they can get started they need new sheetrock on the back wall where a leak in the roof has created water damage.

The museum is also in need of a new roof for four buildings and new carpet for the main exhibit and military room.

Museum volunteer Carol Beckham said they have applied for grants, but they haven’t gone through.

Beckham said since the museum is a historical building, no major changes can be made to the structure.

The museum provides information from the 1900 to the present. There are a variety of exhibits ranging from pioneer and Indian history to Route 66 and military history.

There are also rooms that take you back in time to life in the 1900, with their display of a common parlor or bedroom. Or take a step into the world of communication back in the day, through their printing press and post office exhibits .

Oklahoma and Lincoln County history can be found in the files of the genealogy room, as well as family history.

Donations can be made out to LCHS and sent to 719 Manvel Ave. Chandler.

Beckham said be sure to identify where the donation is intended to go, whether that’s to the new carpet or roof, etc.
