Carl Wayne Herndon was born August 29, 1945 in Chandler to Vernon Virgil and Dorothy Ellen (Jones) Herndon. He passed away April 26, 2021 in Chandler at the age of 75.
Carl grew up in Chandler where he graduated with the Chandler High School class of 1963. He proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. Carl worked in the service industry retiring from NIACO following 25 years. Following retirement, he worked for a time at Walmart because he simply couldn’t sit still. Carl’s favorite past-time was going to the casino when he wasn’t fishing, golfing, or traveling to his favorite destination, The Bahamas.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents Vernon, and Dorothy Herndon; sons, Carl Dean Herndon, Robert Herndon; siblings, Roley Herndon, Phyllis Mitchell. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Carol (Shamblin) Herndon of the home; sons, Shawn South and his wife Rachelle of Chandler, Joseph Coleman of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Dustin and Wade South, Ryan, and Avery Coleman; brother-in-law, Frank Mitchell; sister-in-law, Louella Herndon; special cousin and caregiver, Charlene McElhiney along with other family and friends.
A graveside memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 3, 2021 at Oak Park Cemetery in Chandler. Arrangements are under the direction of Lehman Funeral Home of Wellston.
