Adventures

Our daughter Meghan, son-inlaw Terry and our grandson Liam have come over and spent some time with us during the last couple of weekends.

It’s the first time they have come to visit us since a brain tumor was removed from Meghan in early December and it was diagnosed as cancerous.

We had been over to see and eat dinner with them some since then, but Meghan finally was strong enough to travel over here.

She has started radiation and chemo treatments and that will continue for several more weeks.

It also gave them some time to relax and visit with us and for my wife Pat and I to watch over Liam while he played out in our large backyard.

When Liam comes over he likes to be outside as much as possible, even if it’s a little colder than we think for him. We just bundle him up and we put our heavy jackets and sweat shirts on also.

One of those afternoons they came over to visit was pretty cold, mainly because of the winds blowing like it was.

On the first of those afternoons, Liam asked if we could get the golf cart out and go for a ride. In anticipation he might want to do that, I had our cart charged up.

Pat stayed inside to visit with Meghan and Terry while I went out with the little guy. He likes to drive it by sitting in my lap and working the foot pedal and steering wheel.

I make sure one of my feet is right near the brake and that I have a hand on the steering wheel or near it, especially if we go outside of the backyard.

He just wanted to stay inside the backyard on this particular afternoon which was fine with me and it wasn’t long before he had enough since he didn’t have his heavy jacket on anway.

So it was back inside for a while where he played with some magnetic tiles that he used to create all kinds of things. His little mind is so creative and it’s just sort of fascinating of what all he comes up.

He played with some other things, especially his trash trucks that we keep here at the house for him.

After he had done that a while and we were hungry, we took them out for supper, came back to the house and then sat around outside on our patio keeping warm by the fire pit.

By the time they went home later that evening the little guy was tuckered out.

Their next visit came after Meghan had undergone her first week of treatment. She said she felt pretty good, but was just really tired and somewhat exhausted.

So quite a while before we all went out to supper again, Pat and I went outside with Liam. It was a little nicer, it was cool but not as windy.

He wanted to go on the golf cart again, so I had it all charged up of course and we went outside of backyard this time. Pat went with us, and when we finished that, we sat on the patio and watched the little guy after I had gotten out his little battery-operated car we bought him for Christmas several years ago.

Talking about imagination, it was so interesting to watch him. He’s in to trash trucks and trash collection anyway. So he took several logs from a wheel barrow I had gathered for use in the fireplace at some point and placed them in the backyard.

Then he got in his little car, went around to each one and using his car as a trash truck, played like he was emptying each one into it.

He had so much fun and we enjoyed just watching him do this. It’s kind of fascinating to watch him make his own play that way.

By the time they were ready to head home later that night, he was really tuckered out this time.
