Within the next few months, changes are in store for making local calls. Last week, local calls within the 405 area code could be made by either dialing the local 7-digit local number or by dialing the area code plus the local number.

When the ice storm knocked out power Tuesday morning, it also knocked offline the server we use for our articles and photos. Consequently, we didn’t have access to several important items, including classified ads, photos and articles for the sports section.

Area ice storm causes closures, outages

A late October ice storm forced several school closures and caused power outages throughout areas of Pottawatomie and Lincoln County late Monday and early Tuesday. Many of the schools in the area decided to do virtual learning rather than shut down schools.

Benn in top four in the nation

Meeker FFA President Connor Benn is in the top four in the nation for speech writing. “It’s super cool just to see the amount of work he has put in to becoming a better public speaker,” Meeker AG instructor Logan Johns said. Benn won the state contest, which moved him to nationals.

Absentee voting starts today

Voters in Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties can begin in-person absentee voting today (Thursday, Oct. 29) for Tuesday’s Nov. 3 General Election by casting their ballot at the County Election boards in Chandler and Shawnee.
